Getting Ready

There are just 10 days remaining until I leave. I'm nervous and excited and really can't believe what I'm about to do. I've been planning on doing the directed fieldwork as part of my Masters in Library and Information Science program through the University of Washington's Information School since I heard about the opportunity at my orientation day in Seattle back in Fall of 2005. This directed fieldwork program is unique because it allows the student to contact any library or information organization, anywhere, to find a professional situation to work in under the guidance of an experienced individual and a professor back at the I-school. The possibilities are as endless as the imagination of the student and the willingness of the professor and the professional. I have always wanted to do something abroad but I just haven't yet - so when I learned about this possibility I knew it was a perfect opportunity for me. I wanted to make it happen somehow, and amazingly here I am about to set off!!!

After much planning, e-mailing, studying and conversations (some of which have been in French), I find myself ready to travel to Europe to work at the American Library in Paris. I am thrilled about the opportunity. I'm hoping to post here frequently so that I can share with you. This blog is not intended to be formal - I'm going for more frequent and less perfection. So check often and forgive my occasional typo or incorrect grammar. Stay in touch and e-mail me too!!

love,
Melissa
